Group 3 (7-8 year olds)

Welcome to Cycle 4!

Congratulations for the progress you are helping your students achieve. In the following cycle, students should become engaged with the class in an increasingly active and participative manner. This is why some of the proposed activities in Cycle 4 will require a more dearing involvement from the kids.

OBJECTIVES

THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS CYCLE ARE:

  • Consolidate understanding of class structure.

  • Interact with the concepts of past, present, and future.

  • Speak spontaneously and creatively experiment with the target language.

When you see that there is progress in these areas, you can move on to the next cycle. Check the rubric that will help you know if the group is ready to move forward!

WE SUGGEST YOU CHECK THE EVIDENCES WITH WHICH YOU WILL OBSERVE IF YOUR STUDENTS HAVE ACHIEVED THESE OBJECTIVES

CLASS PLANS

CLASS PLAN

1. STARTING SONG

  • Just like in previous cycles, the Starting Song is the moment for preparation of the Vivadí class. It is also necessary to carry out the playful tasks that the song proposes.

Starting Song - Vivadí
00:00

As always, the Vivadí Class will begin with the Starting Song. Considering one of the main objectives of this cycle, we propose a small activity to start the class and generate spontaneous group responses while the children get ready for Vivadí.

During this cycle, you will play the starting song without giving any indications to the children. In other words, you will stay still and wait to see their reaction to the introduction of the song without giving instructions. Wait for a few seconds and see if they begin to arrange the classroom, or if they take their shoes off, or somehow show that they are ready to start with the class.

Lyrics

If your friends are in the classroom, say hello.

If you see your teacher smiling, show your teeth

If you want to show your feelings, give a hug

If you feel like being silly, make some noise

If you want to get together, make some room

Let your heart feel so much better, make some room

Let’s get ready for Vivadi

Let’s have some fun and play with english in our world

Let’s get ready for Vivadi

We are all in this together

We’ll do it you and me

We’ll be a big great family

If you notice that the kids haven’t reacted to the song, you should intervene by giving the usual instructions of the beginning of the class. Nevertheless, it is very important that you try this exercise every class.

Story Stones

This activity combines storytelling and visual arts.

Students will decorate stones inspired by the  images from the story. Or try thematic stones such as the story they listened to. Put all the stones into a sturdy bag. As your students pull them out one by one, they will use stones to retell the story.

You can also choose to divide the story in 6 parts. Students will work in trios. Assign each trio with a different part of the narrative. Ask them to add new characters and situations and imagine a different ending.

WHO’S TO SAY?

Ball in the hand

Divide the class into small groups and tell them to arrange the seats in a circle. Give each group a story starter at the beginning of the rounds and play music in the background. Tell the kids to move around the circle. Now tell one child to give the other player of the group a sentence of the story. Then the other kid in front of him has to continue the story. The students have to go around the circle, adding one sentence at a time until you give a signal or the music stops.

The second option of activity is to ask the students to make a circle of chairs with one chair less than the number of students in the classroom and while playing the music they have to turn around the chairs. When the music stops the student who is standing has to talk and do what they can do (I can …)

Focus ball

Walk your class through the following exercise: Stand or sit with legs and feet together. Bring your palms together in front of your chest. Keep your fingertips touching as you pull your palms apart, forming a ball with your fingers. Press your fingertips together until you feel the muscles in your hands and arms activating. Now close your eyes and as you breathe in, inflate your ball and as you breathe out, flatten the ball by pushing your palms together. (Then repeat these instructions for 60 seconds).

Ear-Nose Switcheroo

This is a quick and easy challenge to reset the brain. Instruct the students to touch their left ear with their right hand and at the same time touch their nose with their left hand. Then have them switch their hands and touch their right ear with their left hand and their nose with their right hand. Switch back and forth a few times. Then have them close their eyes, take a deep breath, and blow it all out.

3 Minutes Body Scan Meditation - Mindfulness For Kids And Adults

3 Minutes Body Scan Meditation - Mindfulness For Kids And Adults

Able takes you through body scan meditation. Kids love this and so do parents and educators. In Mindfulness for kids, Shamash Alidina describes the body scan as a way to get in touch with the body, let go of feelings of needing to get stuff done, and release pent-up emotions. Just like other forms of meditation, the body scan also trains attention. Alidina says: The body scan alternates between a wide and narrow focus of attention; from focusing on your little toe all the way through the entire body. The body scan trains your mind to be able to move from detailed attention to a wider and more spacious awareness from one moment to the next. In our 3.5 minute body scan meditation, we let the practictioner experience the meditation in a fast paced world allowing oneself to be in touch with one's body.. About Fablefy: Fly With Able and Fy is our series that brings #mindfulness to you and your children. In this video, Able and Fy talk about simple breathing meditation. Continue reading: By practicing yoga poses and meditation, children can learn how to exercise, develop confidence, and concentrate better. Because children encounter emotional, social, and physical challenges or conflicts, a dedicated and intentional yoga and mindfulness practice that includes breathing techniques, behavioral guidelines, and physical postures can be incredibly valuable. Meditation and yoga is something children can practice anywhere and that the breathing, the concentration, the poses, and the way kids learn to act or react to situations, will lead to constant self-discovery and inquisitiveness. Plus, yoga is portable, and no mat, no shoes, no special wear or special clothing, or special pillow is absolutely necessary. In this video, we use music and animation to bring simple exercises to children and also make them breath. 7. ENDING SONG

Ending Song - Vivadí
00:00

Finally, as always, you will sing our well-known Ending Song.

Make sure everyone sings it out loud together. Encourage, especially those kids that don't participate much in class, to see if they can repeat the song phonetically.

Lyrics

If you enjoyed our time together, sing along

If you can’t wait for next class, high five!

To get ready for what follows, tidy up

See you next time dear teacher, good bye!

It’s not goodbye with Vivadi

The things I learnt today will always stay in me

It’s not goodbye with Vivadi

We are all in this together

We’ll do it you and me

We’ll be a big great family

Do not forget to put the class back in order while you sing.

To remind your students to access the platform and do the jornadas.

Don't forget
